It was the shortest day of summer.

Before the last light disappeared behind the hills, the village had already begun to retreat from the night.

Doors closed one by one.
Windows went dark.
Voices vanished from the streets.

By the time the forest disappeared beneath the evening mist, no one remained outside.

No one was supposed to.

For generations, the same warning had been passed from one family to another.

On this night, the Iele descended into the forest.

No one knew exactly where they came from. Some claimed they belonged to the woods. Others believed they appeared only when the boundary between worlds became thin enough to cross.

But everyone agreed on three things.

If you heard their song, do not follow it.
If they called your name, do not answer.
And if you found them dancing, leave before they saw you.

Because once you stepped inside their circle, the dance no longer belonged to you.

And neither did the moment when it ended.

That night, however, someone ignored the warning.

A young man heard the song drifting through the trees.

At first it was distant—barely more than a whisper carried through the mist.

Then it grew clearer.

Closer.

As though the forest itself were calling him.

He followed.

Deeper between the trees.
Past the last familiar path.
Beyond the point where the lights of the village could still be seen.

Until he found them.

Seven figures dancing beneath the night sky.

The Iele.

Their movement was almost impossible to follow. They turned around one another as if obeying something older than music, their circle closing and opening with every step.

The young man stopped.

But he had already come too far.

And he wasn’t the only one still outside that night.

Sânziana was in the forest.

Away from the dancing, she knelt beside a dying flower.

Its stem had collapsed into the earth. Its petals had begun to darken.

Sânziana reached toward it.

The moment her fingers touched the flower, life returned.

The stem lifted.

The petals opened.

For a brief moment, something warm moved beneath her hand.

Then everything stopped.

The wind.

The song.

The forest.

Even the Iele seemed to sense it.

Sânziana raised her eyes.

And above them—

the sky opened.

Something impossible tore through the darkness, illuminating the forest for a heartbeat.

Far below, behind locked doors and darkened windows, the village slept without knowing what had happened.

Without knowing that the warnings they had repeated for generations were no longer enough.

Something had changed.

Something had awakened.

And whatever had opened above the forest had not appeared by accident.

No one in the village knew what had awakened that night.

The young man didn’t know.

The Iele knew more than they revealed.

And Sânziana—

Sânziana knew nothing at all.
